---- Trade routes were needed for spices -traditional overland routes were under control of the Ottoman Empire(modern day Turkey) so Europe had need to find easier routes to riches, spices in East. 

- Portugal one of wealthiest nations (1st)

- Spain did not have full control over nation until 1492 (Moors controlled Southern Spain) - Columbus goes in 1492!

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Primary Source- first hand account an event, originial "record" of what happened, eye-witness account of event.

 -Produced by people who participated in and witnessed the past, primary sources offer a variety of points of view and perspectives of events, issues, people, and places. These records can be found anywhere—in a home, a government archive, etc. 

 

What are some examples:  

 

Audio—oral histories or memoirs, interviews, music

Images—photographs, videos, film, fine art

Objects—clothing (fashion or uniforms), tools, pottery, gravestones, inventions, weapons, memorabilia

Statistics—census data, population statistics, weather records

Text—letters, diaries, original documents, legal agreements, treaties, maps, laws, advertisements, recipes, genealogical information, sermons/lectures
